Introduction
Calling all scientists,
explorers, artists, and detectives!!!
We need your help. Your expertise is sought
by Frost School's Outdoor Environment Center to help the hundreds of "tourists"
who visit our flora and fauna every school year.

The Task
Frost School Visitor's Bureau wants you
to develop a guide for visitors to use as they tour our Environment Center The
Outdoor
Classroom). The information in your guide should contain 15 to 25 plant and animal
specimens that can be observed in our special area. You need to include either accurate
drawings or photos, and brief significant information.
The
Visitor's Bureau wants your guide to:
be designed carefully.
contain accurate information.
include images and written text
identifying and describing the
various plants and animals.
contain
a detailed location map
of specimens.

The Process
Are you the group's savvy
scientist, determined detective,
enthusiastic explorer, arty artist? Decided on
your role.
The Explorer=
- will discover the lay of the land.
- accurately map the location of butterfly region,
bird region, pond area, and floral pieces. Work closely with The Artist to
complete your task.
- will note points of interest, and areas that may
need special attention for various visiting groups.
The Detective=
- will investigate and note ( "The facts
please, just the facts") a list of flora and fauna in the environment, with
some of their special characteristics. You will partner with The Explorer to do
this job.
- will note the season, temperature, time of day,
condition of the environment.
The Scientist=
- will use the work compiled by Detectives and
Explorers to research the plants and animals that have been discovered. You
will use
internet sites as well as books, and other materials to help you complete this
research.
- will work with The Artist to make notes
of interesting facts; make drawings of, and/or take and find photos of your specimens.
The Artist=
- will work closely with all group members to
produce the Visitor's Brochure which will include the map of the environment,
pictures and data on the inhabitants.
- will be responsible for creating specimen
labels to be placed in the Outdoor Classroom.
Remember, you are all
specialists in the field of your choice. You will start out working individually, but also be part
of a collaborative team who will decide which specimens to be included in your guide, and
produce the finished guide.
So, when you've chosen your role, form a team of four specialists and start your
discovery.
