Center for Applied Special Technology (CAST)

CAST is an
educational, not-for-profit organization that uses technology to
expand opportunities for all people, especially those with
disabilities. This site provides information on the Universal Design
for Learning (UDL), a new paradigm for teaching, learning, and
assessment, drawing on new brain research and new media technologies
to respond to individual learner differences.
CAST has
established a National Center on Accessing the General Curriculum to
provide a vision of how new curricula, teaching practices, and
policies can be woven together to create practical approaches for
improved access to the general curriculum by students with
disabilities. They also feature of a number of products.

Center for Assistive Technology (CAT)

CAT conducts
research, education, and service to increase knowledge about assistive
devices for persons with disabilities. The Center works in four
related areas: (1) research and development of assistive devices for
education, employment, leisure, and daily living; (2) education for
students, professionals, and consumers; (3) assistive device service
provision; and (4) dissemination of information about Assistive
Technology
Closing the Gap

Closing the
Gap's role is to provide information on microcomputer materials and
practices that can enrich the lives of persons with special needs.
Closing The Gap offers practical up-to-date information on assistive
technology products, procedures, and best practices. CTG offers forums
where one can share their assistive technology questions, strategies
and solutions with an on-line community and articipate in moderated
discussions lead by experts in the field. They provide a searchable
database of 150 organizations from all over the country who provide
services for individuals with or parents, teachers and employers, of
children and adults with disabilities.

Council for Exceptional Children

The Council
for Exceptional Children (CEC) is the largest international
professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes
for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities,
and/or the gifted. CEC advocates for appropriate governmental
policies, sets professional standards, provides continual professional
development, advocates for newly and historically underserved
individuals with exceptionalities, and helps professionals obtain
conditions and resources necessary for effective professional
practice.

The ERIC
Clearinghouse on Disabilities and Gifted Education (ERIC EC) is one of
16 federally funded clearinghouses in the ERIC system, a nationwide
information network sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education,
Institute of Education Sciences (IES). ERIC EC gathers and
disseminates the professional literature, information, and resources
on the education and development of individuals of all ages who have
disabilities and/or who are gifted.

Families and Advocates Partnership for Education

This site is
dedicated to communication exchange and resources to promote
implementation of the IDEA amendments of 1997. FAPE provides written
information about IDEA '97 for families and advocates. The web site
contains English, as well as Spanish and Hmong translations of
selected on-line documents and printed materials. FAPE provides
training on IDEA '97 and related topics at workshops, brown bag
seminars, satellite video conferences, and on-line training on the
internet. They offer referrals to national, state, and local
disability organizations and advocates and to a nationwide network of
parent training and information centers and community parent resource
centers for information on IDEA '97. FAPE provides information on
research about best practices.

The HEATH
Resource Center is the national clearinghouse on postsecondary
education for individuals with disabilities. HEATH offers an
information exchange about educational support services, policies,
procedures, adaptations, and opportunities at American campuses,
vocational-technical schools, and other postsecondary training
entities. HEATH resource papers, fact sheets, guides, and directories
focus on topics such as accessibility, career, development, classroom
and laboratory adaptations, financial aid, independent living,
transition resources, training and postsecondary education, vocational
education, and rehabilitation.
International Society for Technology and Education

ISTE is
dedicated to providing leadership and service to improve teaching and
learning by advancing the effective use of technology in K–12
education and teacher education. This site provides resources,
information, networking opportunities, and guidance on incorporating
computers, the Internet, and other new technologies into schools.

Resources web site provides resources for people with learning
disabilities. It includes articles and essays, resource lists of tools
and ideas, additional links, a discussion area where users can post
questions, their own resources or stories, or join numerous ongoing
discussions. LD Resources is a non-commercial site designed, built,
and run by Richard Wanderman who is an educational technology
consultant, well-known presenter, and a successful adult with a
learning disability.
Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic

This site
provides information about the services provided by Recording for the
Blind and Dyslexic. RFB&D offers Custom Recording Service for those
with print disabilities to complete their educations, and advance
their careers. RFB&D records educational and reference materials that
are not available on tape or disc from other sources, in areas such as
history, math, science and economics. They also have collections in
their library in science, medicine, environmental issues, law, women's
studies, Jewish studies, literature and fiction.

Do-It programs aim to maximize
the independence, productivity, and participation of people with
disabilities. This site offers a variety of resources for K-12
educators, postsecondary faculty and administrators, librarians,
employers, parents and mentors. They also offer publications and
