American Rivers

Middle school
This site provides resources on topics related to rivers. These include water pollution, water use, floodplains, wetlands, fish and wildlife, and water quality. It offers tools and links, river trips, as well as information on river projects.  

Celebrate Earth Day Every Day

Elementary
This site provides a number of activities, games, downloads, songs, puzzles, crafts and learning experiences related to the earth. Visitors can 'adopt' a rainforest animal, send an Earth Day card, read stories, and explore science programs.

EPA’s Explorer’s Club

Elementary and teacher resources.
This site offers information, art projects, games, science activities, stories, and fun stuff on a variety of topics including air, water, garbage and recycling, plants and animals, and the environment.

Earth Day Network

Elementary/middle school
This site provides information on a variety of projects and programs. These include: water crises around the world, water testing, community environmental health, the earth’s resources, global tree planting, and pollution.

The Environment: A Global Challenge

All ages
This comprehensive site offers 400 articles and 811 pages about the environment and provides many interactive features and classroom resources. It offers course materials, curriculum supports, projects, lesson plans, tests, trivia contests, and discussion areas. Topics include: scientists, philosophy, politics, statistics, current events, economics, environmental problems, environmental health concerns, environment history, and organizations.

Exploring the Environment

All ages, teacher resources
This site offers an online series, which features an integrated approach to environmental earth science through modules and activities, is developed at the NASA Classroom of the Future™. The problems in the ETE modules and activities ask students to address human activities and their impacts upon the environment. The modules and activities incorporate environmental issues such as water quality, deforestation, biodiversity, volcanoes, ozone depletion, and global climate change.

This site offers Web-based ecology activities using video clips. The internet activities provide support for the videoconference, or they may be used as separate classroom activities. Rotten Truth About Garbage

This site offers information about the environment and garbage. It features activities and answers to garbage-related questions from an expert. It also provides a resource list on garbage, recycling and environmental conservation.

Scientists in the City

Elementary/middle school
Scientists in the city are students, teachers, families, and science enthusiasts around the world who are investigating the interaction of the natural and manmade worlds. Become a scientist in your own "city" by using these resources, communicating with other "cities," and joining the collaborative.
  Throughout the school year, scientists will investigate their own school, their neighborhood, and their city. Join other city scientists and, collectively, investigate the great big ecosystem called Earth.

Journey North

All ages
Journey North is a project where students can report your local signs of seasonal change. The results of your observations will be combined with other reports from all over the U.S., and a map will be created to show results. Studies include monarch butterflies, tulip plantings, migration, and whooping cranes. The site includes lesson plans, classroom activities, challenge questions, news and information.

On the Prairie: Prairie Ecology

Elementary and Middle school, teacher resources
This site includes prairie resources, games, information and activities. Visitors can create a virtual prairies, utilize field guides, learn about prairie animals, ask questions, read research, and view movies.
