The
Learning Resources site offers web-delivered instruction using
current and past CNN San Francisco bureau news stories. Each module
includes the full text of each story and interactive activities to
test comprehension. The learner can choose to read the text, listen
to the text, and view a short video clip of the story. Fourth grade

Database of Award-winning Children’s
Literature.
The purpose
of this database is to create a tailored reading list of quality
children's literature and to find out if a book has won one of the
indexed awards.
DAWCL has
over 4,000 records from 50 awards across five English-speaking
countries (United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the
United Kingdom). Each book is indexed to some degree so users can
find it using the form search or the keyword search.

ABC News 4 Kids
presents
this very child-friendly news service wherein each story pops up in
a kid-safe window and runs a Flash presentation for students.
Students control the flow of information and pop-up glossary terms
are embedded right in the text. Graphics are warm and inviting, and
information is delivered in bite-size chunks perfect for elementary
students.
Alphabet Action - Click on a letter, hear the letter name and
see a picture of an object that begins with the letter. Great for
early emergent readers.
Time for Kids is an
online news magazine just for kids. Weekly issues include current
events stories for kids grades 2-5. Selected articles from past
issues are archived on the site.
Colorado Virtual Library for
Kids- search for resources by topic. Provides extensive lists of
resources and links. Many sites for kids, a page for parents with
info on good children's books, reading to children, keeping kids
safe in cyberspace, and a page for teachers where web sites are

freely readable over the Internet. It also aims to encourage the
development of such online books, for the benefit and edification of

Project Bartleby. This is an
internet publisher of literature, reference and verse for students
and researchers with unlimited access to books and information on
the web, free of charge. Resources are indexed by author and title.
The site includes searchable dictionaries, encyclopedias, thesauri,
quotations, the King James Bible, Shakespeare, anatomy, and writing
resources.

Mid-Continent
Public Library. 'Based on the Book' is a compilation of over
850 book titles, short stories, and plays that have been made into
motion pictures. Utilizing the Internet Movie Database as the
authority on release dates, all movies in this collection have been

Your Own Adventure!
Create your
own adventure story by using this mad lib style activity. You can
choose between five different story titles. Elementary age.
The Scholastic Writing Center provides interactive mini-lessons
and instruction to help students develop their writing skills.
Topics include: expository writing, persuasive essay, using
transitional words & supporting Facts, and using supporting
examples. It also offers step-by-step assistance with the writing
process from pre-writing to publishing. Basic level- any age.
School-Home Link Reading Kit lists 100 School-Home activities
for the kindergarten level. The activities are organized by reading
and literacy skills appropriate to this grade. Under each specific
skill, there are varying numbers of activities to help children
develop their ability to read and write. For the categories that

Children's Television
Workshop offers a variety of Sesame Street activities, including
on-line stories for students in primary grades. The site features

Sentence Sense: A
Writer's Guide from Capital Community College. This online textbook
in basic writing offers students three approaches to becoming more
confident writers. Part One examines how sentences work, giving
students a structural understanding of the language they use every
day. Part Two focuses on errors that commonly appear in written
English. Part Three suggests techniques and topics for developing
ideas in writing. Students may move back and forth among parts,
using the resources collected in Part Four as support. Middle and
