7-12 Lesson Plans (Industrialization, Urbanization & Immigration Period)This lesson will expose students to what Landis's vision was, how he worked to bring it about, and the role of Vineland as an agricultural center in New Jersey and the region. Students will study the immigration experience of Jewish immigrants by examining the motivations for leaving Europe and the factors that lead them to settle in New York, and later, New Jersey. The Jewish Immigration PowerPoint The Rise of the Standard of Living in The Glided Age This lesson covers the political, social, and economic changes that occurred during the Gilded Age and the Roaring ‘20s through comparing specific areas of each time period, such as health and safety, urbanization, industrialization, inventions and technological innovations, and leisure activities. Students will research the positions of Terence Powderly and Samuel Gompers on various issues relating to the labor movement. Students will present these positions in the form of a dialogue between Powderly and Gompers. US & GB Relations in the 19th Century Students will learn about the foreign relations controversies affecting British-U.S. relations during the years 1865-1900. This lesson is a cooperative activity that will have students preparing and presenting a role play activity. Although the suggested time frame for the lesson is four class period, this lesson could be tailored to complete in as little as two periods. The United States became the largest industrial power in the world during the latter half of the Nineteenth Century into the beginning of the Twentieth. Through research and analysis of statistics, maps, primary and secondary sources and periodicals students will identify and discuss why it was the U.S. that became the industrial leader and not other nations in the Western Hemisphere. |
