In this lesson students will listen to a selected piece of literature, perform a community service act and share with classmates.


Post 1975 Vietnam

In this lesson students will view a video of Southeast Asia and the Pacific, the geography of Vietnam, and create a Vietnam travel brochure.


Mao's Great Leap Forward

In this lesson, students will determine the guilt or innocence of Mao Zedong for the failure of his political plan known as The Great Leap Forward, which allegedly caused the deaths of millions of Chinese peasants.  Students will listen to witness statements in a trial setting and the jury will decide Mao’s fate.  The students will be asked to write a reflection of the process.


Reagan and Gorbachev at Reykjavik

Provide background information on the progress that was made between the United States and Russia to reduce the threat of nuclear war during the mini Summit held in Reykjavik, Iceland; by reviewing the historical background section.  Students will be divided into teams, each team will be assigned an excerpt from the Gorbachev-Reagan Reykjavik Talks, and students will use the excerpt to create a story-board. Students will sequentially present the story-boards to the class and the students will complete a graphic organizer. The teacher will recap the events and students will respond to an open-ended question.

Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge

In this lesson students will learn about Pol Pot and how he came to power.  They will also explore the time span of his regime by making a class time line of major events.
