educators. Since librarians are involved, you know it's well organized.

Links to Search Engines

search engines.
Yahooligans!
The Yahoo! search engine has selected sites appropriate for kids. Not a site for
serious research, but a great place to start for teaching kids about searching. And
it's the only search engine elementary students need.
Ask Jeeves
A different kind of search engine. You can ask questions in English. Jeeves
will even check your spelling, if you wish. There is also a special Ask Jeeves for Kids.
Northern Light
After all the commercials on the more popular search engines, Northern Light is like a
cool breeze on a hot day. No ads, just a soft sell on articles from their
"special collection."
WWWomen
A search site dedicated to women's topics.
Symbols.com
A searchable collection of 2500 symbols. Find the history of a symbol, or download
it for your own use. "The signs range from ideograms carved in mammoth teeth by
Cro-Magnon men, to hobo signs and subway graffiti."
"Meta" Search Engines
These are sites that send your keywords to a range of search engines, then give
you replies from each one. Most of the time, it's just more of the same, but if you
have a very specific search, you may want to use one of these.
