East Brunswick has a research project in third, fourth and fifth grades.  For more information on the research project, see the Technology in Elementary page.  Several sites were identified to provide resources for those projects.  Those sites are listed below.

Endangered Species

Animal Resources – Sea World/Busch Gardens
Grade level: All
Subject: Science
Part of the SW/BG Education Series; rich with information on various sea mammals, some other animals, and various animal topics. Includes pictures and appropriate links to other areas within the site.

 

The Electronic Zoo Animal Resources
Grade level: 2 and up
Subject: Science
Provides links to web sites about animals, listed by categories.

Birmingham Zoo Animal Omnibus
Grade level: 3 and up
Subject: Science
Searchable database of common and zoo animals by region. Best to do search by first by classification (Birds, Fishes, etc.), and then by common name. Gives links to other sites with information on the animal.

 

Lincoln Park Zoo
Grade level: 3 and up
Subject: Science
Searchable database of birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. Indicates endangered species, if applicable.

National Parks

Great Outdoors Recreation Page (GORP)
Grade level: 4 and up
Subject: Social Studies
Information on parks, forests, the wilderness, etc., including maps (with links), photos, recreational activities, and much more. Content arranged geographically (worldwide), and by state for the United States. Organized but cluttered; requires careful concentration when searching/using this site.

National Park Service (ParkNet)
Grade level: 4 and up
Subject: Social Studies
National park information including lesser known and special significance areas. Links to historical, educational, natural resource, and park information. Updated regularly with a link to a special topic (on 8/20/98, the link was to Places Where Women Made History).

 

American Park Network (APN)
Grade level: 4 and up
Subject: Social Studies/Science
"Comprehensive source of information on America’s favorite parks." Links to park information, activities, travel tips, etc. Includes a Q&A section (Park Talk) where questions about America’s parks can be asked and answered electronically.

 


Native Americans

Lakota - Dakota - Sioux Nation
Grade level: 5 and up
Subject: Social Studies
Site is rich in pictures of tribal art and artifacts. Shows a timeline of important events, description and schedule of Sioux powwows, description and maps of landmarks, and information on individual tribes and their leaders.

Subject: Social Studies
Provides information on Lenape culture, including food, dress, jobs of men and women, stories, spirituality, and more.
