Inspired Learning in the Classroom

Find out how to engage and support the learning of special education students in the mainstream by providing them with material that is visually supported. Learn how  Inspiration teachers will have the opportunity to  create concept maps, webs, and timelines to use in the  classroom.

Digital Day
Learn how to use a digital camera throughout your day to build your students’ reading and writing skills. See how you can use these digital pictures to create personalized books for each student or activity in your room. You will learn to crop your photos, add text and print. Each participant will complete a short book (2-3 pages) to bring back to the classroom.
Recommended for
: Teachers, therapists, parents.

Puzzlemaker   
Create, print and save customized word search, crossword, and math puzzles using your own word lists. In this workshop, teachers will make Word Search puzzles, Criss-Cross puzzles, Mazes, Hidden Messages, Number Blocks, Math Squares, Double Puzzles, Cryptograms, Letter Tiles, or Fallen Phrases. You bring the content and together we will create puzzles for student practice.

Recommended for:
Anyone who needs puzzles for student use.

Talking Books: K – 8

Here’s a simple technology project for the classroom. Using Microsoft PowerPoint students can make interactive talking books that can be used in the classroom or uploaded to the Internet to be shared by all. In this workshop, you will learn how to make a PowerPoint book with sounds, animated graphics and hyperlinks.

Introduction to Microsoft Word
After this full-day workshop, you won't be able to imagine how you existed without Microsoft Word.  You will learn to create, save and open documents; change the style and color of text; add borders and shading; and use the spell checker and thesaurus. This course fulfills the "Word Processing" requirement for NJDOE's Beginner Technology Proficiency Level Certificate.
Recommended for: Anyone who wants to learn word processing.  Some experience using a mouse and Windows is suggested, but not necessary.  No experience with Word is expected.
 

From Excel to Access and Back
Do you have lists of information in an Excel spreadsheet?  Do you have to download NJDOE reports using Excel?  Are you limited in how you can extract specifics within Excel?  Then this half-day workshop is for you.  We will show how to import Excel worksheets into Access, design simple select queries and reports, and then export back to Excel for analysis.  Bring your spreadsheets with you and leave with the reports you need.
Recommended for:  Participants familiar with Excel and basic database design.

Introduction to Microsoft Excel
Ready for the next step beyond calculators? This full-day workshop will cover the skills needed to create basic spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel. Learn to create, save and open spreadsheets; enter and edit data in a spreadsheet; build formulas and create charts. This course fulfills the “Introduction to Spreadsheet and Graphing” requirement for NJDOE’s Beginner Technology Proficiency Level Certificate. 
Recommended for: Anyone interested in creating spreadsheets.  Experience using a mouse is needed.

Introduction to Adobe Photoshop Elements
This workshop is for anyone who needs to learn the basics of correcting digital and scanned picture files using Photoshop Elements the less complex photo editing program from Adobe.  Learn how to use automatic color correction and image enhancement and dabble with the panoramic feature included with the software. Create an original work of art and save a copy for the Internet.   We will have fun with picture filters creating several images from just one photo .   Participants are urged to bring images to scan and/or their own digital pictures to work on. 
Recommended for:  K-12 teachers and digital camera enthusiasts.

Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint.This full-day workshop will enable participants to create multimedia presentations to support all aspects of teaching and learning. Participants will explore features in PowerPoint, which bring slides to life. You will learn how to animate your slides and how to add interesting transitions between slides. This course fulfills the “Introduction to Multimedia” requirement for NJDOE’s Beginner Technology Proficiency Level Certificate. To help with the creation of your own PowerPoint presentation you might want to bring a textbook or other curriculum materials
Recommended for: Anyone who wants to create dynamic presentations. Some computer experience is required.

Making the Most of Your PowerPoint  Want to add pizzazz to your PowerPoint?  Be daring and toss aside the program’s tired templates. This workshop will give you techniques and ideas to make your presentations more appealing and more professional.  Explore how to make your visuals more dynamic with basic slide design—all you need to have is the basic knowledge of how to create a slide.
Recommended for
Participants with a basic understanding of PowerPoint

Using Microsoft Movie Maker as a Presentation Tool
If your district has Microsoft Windows XP operating system then you have Movie Maker at your fingertips.  Come in and learn a new way of presenting information to your class, district and/or community.  Utilizing still pictures, video, sound recordings, and original artwork, you will create a 21st century presentation that will change the way you use your computer. 
Recommended for: Participant familiar with the digital process and basic computer skills.

Design a Treasure Hunt on the Internet
Learn to design an Internet treasure hunt loaded with activities that will get your students searching for specific information. Your students can have fun while they are learning some critical thinking skills. In this workshop you will surf the Internet for appropriate sites, download pictures, generate questions/clues and put it all together using Microsoft Word.
Recommended for: Anyone experienced with Internet surfing and word processing software.

Design, Post and Collect Information with Online Forms
Have you tried every new Web design technique available to have the latest bells and whistles for your web site?  Do you find it challenging to use the Web as a tool for displaying district information?  Well what would you think about using the Web to gather information from students, teachers, staff and the community.  Using Microsoft Front Page learn what is needed to put together an efficient survey tool and then turn the information into a creative and lasting summary report.
Recommended for:  Participants must be familiar with Web Design software, e.g. FrontPage, Dreamweaver or another HTML editor.

Organizing Your Computer Files You know you saved that file … somewhere.  How can you find it?  This workshop will teach you how to organize your computer desktop and hard drive to make locating files quick and easy.  You will learn how to make electronic folders, remove unwanted files, use the Search feature to find missing documents, and even change the look of your desktop.
Recommended for
: Anyone who wants a less chaotic electronic filing system.

Technology for Inclusion
Discover how technology can help the mainstreamed special education student succeed in the classroom. The developers of Windows and Microsoft Office XP incorporated exciting and useful accommodations for students with disabilities. Handwriting recognition is a built-in feature. There is also an on-screen keyboard. Voice recognition is not perfect but it is there, too. Come and learn all about it. We’ll also use text-to-speech software that you can download for free and install wherever you like. Show your district all the no-cost tools you learned how to use. You'll be a hero.
Recommended for: Regular and special education teachers, aides, child study team members, and parents.
