Cooperative Learning in the Technology-Infused Classroom Learn to differentiate instruction using a variety of cooperative learning activities. In the technology-infused classroom, students need to learn to work collaboratively as a team, while at the same time be individually accountable. Strategies for balancing these key features of cooperative learning as a method of integrating technology will be highlighted. Recommended for: Teachers of grades K-8 UDL-What is it and When Can I Start Using These Strategies Would you like to learn what the acronym UDL means and why so many grants want this type of model in your curriculum? Learn the “ins” and “outs” of how to use Universal Design for Learning in your classroom. Begin to see how these techniques allow all students to learn and grow academically as well as socially and emotionally. Perfect your use of menus to promote learning. This workshop is for anyone that works in an educational setting. Recommended for: All teachers. Enhancing your UDL Treasure Chest with Thinkfinity: Are you using the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) model to teach your students? If you are, you are constantly adding to those Treasure Chest activities. Let’s add some more materials using the Thinkfinity portal. Spend a few hours and come away from this workshop ready to put more treasures in that chest for your students. Recommended for: Teachers of grades K-8, special education teachers Top of Page SMART Board across the Curriculum: A First Course Make the most of your SMART board and watch class participation and engagement soar. First you will master SMART board basics. Then you will learn how to plan and prepare your SMART lessons on any computer using SMART notebook software. Come and take back interactive enhanced lessons to use with your SMART board. We will provide a list of websites that are particularly SMART board “friendly.” No more fumbling for transparencies, hyperlinks, diagrams, or files. Your lesson will flow seamlessly and learning will increase as students participate as active learners. Please bring your curriculum materials. Note: Smart Note book software is free to Smart board users and can be purchased for use on other brands of interactive white boards Recommended for: Anyone interested in using a SMART board Writing for Success on the NJ ASK: Grades 3 – 8 This workshop will provide guidelines and practice for evaluating student writing based on the NJ RHSR (Registered Holistic Scoring Rubric) and Open Ended Scale. When writing needs have been determined, specific strategies to enhance text production and address student weaknesses will be provided. Writing in response to Open Ended prompts as well as the Speculative, Explanatory/Expository and Persuasive/Argument Essay prompts will all be addressed. Recommended for: Grades 3-8 teachers Introduction to Microsoft Word After this full-day workshop, you won’t be able to imagine how you existed without Microsoft Word. You will learn to create, save and open documents; change the style and color of text; add borders and shading; and use the spell checker and thesaurus. Recommended for: Anyone who wants to learn word processing. Some experience using a mouse and Windows is suggested, but not necessary. No experience with Word is expected. Top of Page SMART BUG The goals of the SMART Board Users Group are to network with fellow SMART Board enthusiasts and to use SMART Notebook software effectively to improve student outcomes in the classroom. K – 5: SMART Board in the Math Class For teachers who are familiar with Smart Board basics, this course will focus on hands-on activities specifically designed to show you how to incorporate “SMART” math lessons into your curriculum. Bring your planning guide and text book and design a Smart Notebook unit for use with your curriculum. You will also have time to find ready-made interactive enhanced lessons directly correlated to the new common core math standards that you can use as is, or modify. Recommended for: Teachers of math grades K - 5 Top of Page Learning Styles - Activities to Reach All Learners What is your learning style? Come have some fun investigating how you learn in order to better understand your students’ strengths and weaknesses. We will then explore some activities that are aligned to these learning styles and develop lessons specific to your students’ needs. Recommended for: Interested teachers Robotics for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics This hands-on work shop is provided by intelitek and Mid-Atlantic Training. It is an exciting day of robotics technology and will provide an opportunity for participants to build and program a robot. You will explore a current Robotics Engineering Curriculum (REC) from intelitek. REC provides a comprehensive study of engineering concepts including physics, programming, mechanical systems, electrical and electronics systems and is STEM based. By using robotics competitions as a vehicle to convey the principles of engineering REC generates excitement and enthusiasm for engineering and science! Learn how you can begin a successful engineering program with REC. Recommended for: Grade 7-12 teachers and administrators of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. *Vendor presentation. Fee: Free to member districts, $65 for non members Using Technology to Enhance the Writing Process 3 - 8 How do you use computers to engage students in the writing process? In this hands-on workshop we'll begin with prewriting activities and continue through drafting, revising, editing and publishing. You will learn how to implement these practices in your classrooms and have your students producing well written texts aided by the computer. Adding art, formatting texts, inserting comments, researching online, and using other tools available for word processing will be presented. Recommended for: Teachers of Grades 3-8
