Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

The Center for Applied Special Technology, CAST, coined the term Universal Design for Learning.  The CAST website states, “Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a framework for designing curricula that enable all individuals to gain knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm for learning. UDL provides rich supports for learning and reduces barriers to the curriculum while maintaining high achievement standards for all.” This workshop will help you incorporate UDL principles in your classroom and show you wonderful free tools and resources that you can use. Make learning accessible for every student.

Introduction to Microsoft Word

After this full-day workshop, you won’t be able to imagine how you existed without Microsoft Word. You will learn to create, save and open documents; change the style and color of text; add borders and shading; and use the spell checker and thesaurus.

: Anyone who wants to learn word processing. Some experience using a mouse and Windows is suggested, but not necessary. No experience with Word is expected.

Intermediate Microsoft Word

Make and Take with Microsoft Word

If you have Microsoft Word you have all you need to create labels, pencil flags, signs, certificates, and letters all personalized with your students’ or parents’ names. Introduction to Microsoft Excel

This workshop is for anyone who needs to learn the basics of correcting digital and scanned picture files using Photoshop Elements, the less complex photo editing program from Adobe. Learn how to use automatic color correction and image enhancement and dabble with the panoramic feature included with the software. Create an original work of art and save a copy for the Internet. We will have fun with picture filters creating several images from just one photo. Participants are urged to bring images to scan and/or their own digital pictures.

Intermediate Adobe Photoshop Elements

This workshop picks up where the introductory course ends. Looking at the tools provided in the program, web designers, presentation and digital portfolio enthusiasts alike will export original works of art for any and all multimedia K-12 requirements. We’ll look at creating type face graphics, shaping buttons, color gradients’ and photo masking to name a few. Participants will leave this workshop with a cache of graphics to use in their classrooms.

Using Microsoft Movie Maker as a Presentation Tool

If your district has Microsoft Windows XP operating system then you have Movie Maker at your fingertips. Come in and learn a new way of presenting information to your class, district and/or community. Utilizing still pictures, video, sound recordings, and original artwork, you will create a 21st century presentation that will change the way you use your computer.

Getting Started with Moodle: Your Online Classroom

As explained on moodle.org, “Moodle is a course management system (CMS) - a free, Open Source software package designed using sound pedagogical principles, to help educators create effective online learning communities.” This hands-on workshop will allow users to take Moodle for a test drive. Experience an existing Moodle classroom and then learn how to get started on creating your own Moodle site. You will learn how to create an online classroom, upload files, setup calendars, include podcasts and video, and assorted other features built into a Moodle site. In the morning we will explore the world of blogs and how a blog can relate to your instructional goals. You will establish a blog on the Internet for future use. The afternoon will be devoted to the world of podcasting. You will learn the vocabulary, the tools and the process used to locate, download, create and publicize your own podcasts. Find out what all the buzz is about and learn how these new tools can amplify student projects as well as your own listening interests.

Participants will analyze the variety of facets involved  in the creation of these popular Web 2.0 tools by comparing the major software  and host, establishing a plan to address concerns about security and privacy,  as well as applying the procedures to get started. Partakers will additionally  survey maintenance processes, attain an understanding in adding users or  inviting members, while also peeking at what other educators are doing with their blogs and wikis.  We will further review their relevance for the classroom application and potential to enhance learning. Introduction to Macromedia Dreamweaver

Get started with Dreamweaver by exploring the palettes and preferences. We’ll set up a Web site by creating and organizing files, building and managing site structure, and checking links. We’ll examine Dreamweaver properties, horizontal rules, lists, background and text colors. Learn to insert and position your images and setup both internal and external hyperlinks.
