Day One focuses on
the use of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles as tools to assist
the educator in defining barriers to learning and structuring the solutions
necessary to educate every child.

Day Two focuses
on the use of UDL principles in the area of mathematics. Learn the tools
necessary to assist the struggling learner. Discover how the use of
technology can assist learners in mastering math skills and concepts.

Math: Day 1 of 2
How does technology
support student learning? In this workshop, teachers will explore different
technological resources including the SmartBoard, tablet PCs, and a simple
laptop and projector. Teachers will explore how to use software and web
resources in order to teach and assess, not just present. The benefits of
using technology to assist struggling learners will be explicitly addressed.
Teachers are encouraged to attend the follow up workshop where lesson plans
and assessment strategies will be reviewed.

Math: Day 2 of 2
How do you know students are getting it?
Teachers will develop formative assessments with technology and well planned
follow up questions. Specific attention will be devoted to reviewing student
responses to specifically crafted exercise in order to determine gaps in
learning. Teachers will learn how to develop key assessment activities to
measure daily lesson objectives and how to use the information to track
performance and target struggling learners.
